Another ֱ Wildcat is playing in a major golf championship.
Rising senior Filip Jakubcik is one of nine amateurs participating in The Open Championship, which runs Thursday-Sunday at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

Jakubcik qualified for The Open by June 25-28 at Vasatorps Golfklubb in Sweden.
“It’s crazy,” Jakubcik said after the tournament. “It’s probably every amateur’s goal to play The Open, or any other major. The fact that I can play in one, to get the experience, the feeling, I’m super excited.”
Jakubcik, , shot a closing five-under 67 to win the event by three strokes. He’s the first player from the Czech Republic to win the European Amateur Championship.

Jakubcik’s teammate, Zach Pollo, qualified for this year’s U.S. Open. Their former teammate, Tiger Christensen, played in last year’s Open Championship.

Both Pollo and Christensen missed the cut. If practice is any indication, Jakubcik might have a chance to make it. He recorded a on the sixth hole during a practice round Tuesday.
Jakubcik also has familiarity with links-style golf after playing in the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup at Lahinch Golf Club in Lahinch, Ireland.
As a junior this past season, Jakubcik made first-team All-Big 12. He had a team-best scoring average of 71 and won the Western Intercollegiate for the second straight year.
Jakubcik’s scheduled tee time is 12:36 a.m. on Thursday. He’s playing with Thorbjorn Oleson and Matthew Jordan.
