A Tucson man was convicted of multiple felonies last week in connection with the 2016 kidnapping of a prostitute who used to work for him, officials said.
On July 14, a Pima County jury convicted Rennell Deshawn Collier of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited possessor, according to a news release from the Pima County Attorney's Office.
Collier used to be the victim's pimp, but she left him. Last year, Collier located the victim and posed as a client, setting up an appointment at a local hotel, the release said.
When the woman arrived, Collier put a gun to her stomach and told her that if she screamed, he would shoot her. A friend of the victim who witnessed the assault reported the incident to police, the release said.
Collier, who has a prior felony offense out of Maricopa County, will be sentenced by Pima County Superior Court Judge Case McGinley on August 18.
