Colbert Addresses Trump Death Rumors On 'Late Show' Return

  • Updated

Stephen Colbert has returned for the final season of ‘The Late Show’ and addressed the social media rumors speculating that President Donald Trump had died. "I was shocked to learn that this weekend the biggest story was frenzied social media rumors speculating whether Donald Trump had died," Colbert said. Colbert said the rumors started because Trump had no events scheduled for a few days, with music playing in the White House gardens being the only "proof of life." Colbert showed the audience a video of JD Vance defending Trump's health. In the video, Vance said Trump is “last person to go to sleep, and he is the last person making phone calls at night.” "Or he runs a phone-sex line," Colbert joked, mimicking the president discussing "compression socks for my bloated cankles" in Trump's voice. Colbert also questioned mysterious footage showing heavy bags dropped from White House windows, which officials called "regular maintenance while the president was gone." Trump later claimed the video was AI, prompting Colbert to respond, "You just blamed AI! Which means something really bad happened!" President Trump told Fox News he was unaware of the death rumors, but a source told Rolling Stone that the President “sees everything."
