Doug Biggers, the driving force behind the 's revitalization since 2003, has resigned as the historic theater's executive director.
"I've cleaned out my desk at the Rialto Theatre, have taken my William Lesch photo off the wall, my Eriks Rudans sculpture outta the rest room, loaded up all my stuff... and I'm gone," Biggers posted on early Thursday.
"It's something that's been in the works for a while, kind of part of our larger plan," he said later today. "Having been involved with (the Rialto) for eight years, I think it was probably time for me to have a change."
Biggers will now turn his full-time attention to renovating the on Main Street. He and his partners in the venture plan to open it in April as a multi-use community-centered venue, he said.

The Rialto's general manager and talent buyer Curtis McCrary will run daily operations until the non-profit board of directors finds his replacement. Biggers said that could be a while so that the board can free up the $60,000 it paid him a year.
