Monsoon showers are likely to start this week, the National Weather Service in Tucson said in a forecast update Monday, however chances of a rained out Independence Day have dropped.
Monday’s high in the region was expected to peak at 111 degrees with a 10% chance of rain. In Tucson, Tuesday is expected to reach a high of 106 degrees with a 30% chance of rain.
Meli Engel takes advantage of a free bubble wand handed out at a recent Cox Movies in the Park at Reid Park. On Monday, the National Weather Service said there’s a 30% chance of rain in Tucson on the Fourth of July.
Wednesday and Thursday temperatures will likely drop to highs of 100 degrees and 93 degrees as chances of rain increase to 50% and 60%.
“There is a concern for strong wind and dust today and tomorrow, so people should be aware of their surroundings,†forecaster Kei Malarkey said Monday. “Then, we could see flash floods Wednesday and Thursday, with a dropping chance Friday.â€
Rain is possible Friday, Independence Day, but the latest forecast for the Tucson area dropped it Monday from a 60 percent chance to a 30 percent chance.
The National Weather Service predicted a 60% chance of rain last week for Independence Day. However, on Monday the weather service reduced it to a 30% chance of rain.

“There’s been a little bit of an oscillation in the high pressure,†Malarkey said. “It’s just pushing the moisture a little bit more out of our region by Friday, so there’s still a chance for showers, they just might not be as wet.â€
Malarkey said its still hard to pinpoint when storms will take place Friday.
