Sunnyside Little League continued to advance through the losers’ bracket of the Junior League West Region Tournament with a 3-1 victory Monday in Bend, Oregon.
Sunnyside won its third game in as many days and next plays at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Sunnyside needs to win twice more to advance to Thursday’s championship game. The winner of that game advances to the Aug. 3-10 Junior League Baseball World Series in Taylor, Michigan.

Sunnyside was able to slip past Lakeland of Idaho on Monday thanks to the stellar pitching of Rodolfo Carbajal, who allowed zero earned runs in a complete-game three-hitter. Carbajal walked only one batter and struck out four, overcoming Sunnyside’s defense, which was charged with seven errors.
Sunnyside had only two hits but drew seven walks. Sunnyside scored all of its runs in the top of the sixth inning, taking advantage of a pair of Lakeland errors. Humberto Rodriguez and Alain Lara also pulled off a double steal.

Carbajal got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth. The lone run he allowed, in the bottom of the seventh, was unearned.
After losing to Gastineau Channel of Alaska on Thursday, Sunnyside defeated Mile High of Montana and host Bend North by a combined score of 30-3 over the weekend.
In American Legion baseball, Post 7, consisting of players from Tucson High School, will face host Fairfield, California, in the opening round of the American Legion Western Regional Tournament on Aug. 6.
