According to the UA's online football roster, 40 ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ are transfers. That's almost half the team, by far a record for the ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥.
It makes you wonder how good those 40 football players will be. Since 1975, ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ has had just four transfers make the All-Pac-12 first team. They are:
– 1979: Cleveland Crosby, defensive end, transfer from Purdue
– 1980: Dave Liggins, cornerback, transfer from Cincinnati
– 1983: Brad Anderson, receiver, transfer from BYU
– 1989: Anthony Smith, defensive end, transfer from Alabama
Perhaps the most high-profile UA transfer of the pre-transfer portal era was quarterback Dan White of Penn State, who led the Desert Swarm teams of 1993 and 1994 to 18 victories in two seasons.

It would be almost impossible to accurately guess who will be the best of the UA's 40 current transfers. What is more interesting is that 14 of them are multiple transfers — those who played at at least two schools before ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥. Here's how they became ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥:
– Deshawn McKnight, DL: Played two years at Appalachian State before transferring to UT-Martin and ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥.
– Max Harris, LB: Harris is at his fourth school. He previously played at Texas State, UIW and Louisiana-Monroe.
– Kris Hutson, WR: Initially a top recruit at Oregon, Hutson then transferred to Washington State, where he started 12 games last year.
– Marquis Groves-Killebrew, RB: A long journey. Groves-Killebrew committed to play at both Georgia and Nebraska, and then signed with Texas A&M before transferring to Louisville.
– Jay'Vion Cole, DB: Before playing for Brent Brennan at San Jose State, Cole played at Cal Poly and Texas.
– Braedyn Locke, QB: The backup to Noah Fifita, Locke began his career at Mississippi State and then transferred to Wisconsin, where he had 12 starts.

ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ running back Ismail Mahdi makes the cut back through the wicket as the team works out during preseason training camp, Aug. 12, 2025.
– Ismail Mahdi, RB: He began at Houston Christian before transferring to Texas State, where he led the FBS in all-purpose yards after nine games of the 2023 season.
– Avery Salerno, long snapper: His journey has taken him from North Carolina to Chowan University to Jackson State and ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥.
– Blake Gotcher, LB: He has made 162 career tackles at Lamar and Northwestern State.
– Chance Roberts, OL: In a career that began at Tiffin University in Ohio, Roberts then moved to Albany University and ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥.
– Ty Buchanan, OL: He redshirted at USC in 2022 and then transferred to Texas Tech for two seasons.
– Jordan Brown, OL: From NC-Charlotte to Georgia Tech to Tucson.
– Keyan Burnett, TE: In a rarity, Burnett bolted to Kansas after two seasons at ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ and then returned to the ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ before playing a down at KU.
– Tiaoalii Savea, DL: Another transfer who returned to Tucson, after playing at Texas, Savea initially began his career playing for UCLA.
