Finding $20.5 million in revenue-sharing money for an athletic department has led to some creative thinking in college football. Even the mighty Oklahoma Sooners are looking for new ways to generate revenue.
Last week, OU announced its "Some Magic Memories" concept, in which Sooner football fans can pay to sit in the coach's post-game press conference. Really.
For OU's opener against Illinois State, it is charging $462 per couple to watch coach Brent Venables' press conference with the school's media corps. It sold out its allotment of tickets in one day. The Sooners then upped the price to $700 per couple to be in the audience for Venables' post-game press box against Michigan in September.
ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ has also jumped on the train with . Its press conference pass for a single game costs $150 per person.

This might not always be a good idea.
Off the top of my head, I picked three ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ post-game press conferences of the last 30 years that may have been, shall we say, a waste of money.
– Nov. 23, 1996, ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Stadium: The ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ lost 56-14 to Jake Plummer’s ASU Sun Devils, ending a 15-year domination of the Territorial Cup. Sun Devil fans stormed the field and partied for about an hour. Meanwhile, UA coach Dick Tomey held his post-game press session in the antiquated room at the bottom of ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Stadium's west side, barely big enough to fit 10 people. A lower-level window opened to the field, which was soon discovered by Sun Devil fans, who screamed profanities at Tomey through the window.
After several standard questions, Tomey was asked if he had any hard feelings toward ASU and its fans. "This is not a good time for me to talk about it," he said, abruptly ending the Q&A session.
– Oct. 8, 2011, Reser Stadium, Oregon State: ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ lost its fifth straight game, routed by the Beavers. Only six people walked into the small press room at Gill Coliseum, where coach Mike Stoops and athletic director Greg Byrne were standing alone, talking quietly. "It's gotten to the point it's ridiculous," said Stoops. "We're (bleep)." He called his team "atrocious" and left the room. He was fired two days later.
– Oct. 31, 2015, Husky Stadium, Seattle: After being pounded 49-3 by Washington, UA coach Rich Rodriguez lost his temper outside a makeshift interview room at the UW facility. Only four reporters sat in the room, waiting. RichRod could be overheard threatening to fire an equipment manager if the bus to the airport was not loaded and ready to go RIGHT NOW. Then, on the walk down a narrow corridor to the press room, RichRod unleashed a string of profanities connected to the UA football program. His wife, Rita, was waiting for him when he reached the press room. "Calm down, honey," she said. Instead, RichRod pouted for a brief two-minute interview, answering questions with one word or two. "This is as disappointed as I've ever been," he said, bolting from the room.
Maybe fans should reconsider before buying those expensive press conference tickets.
