First there was the flood that forced the popular UA-area Greek restaurant to close in July.
Then came the mounting repairs, which started with removing the hood above the stoves, which led to a slew of renovations courtesy city building and health codes.
So while he was at it, owner George Markou decided the time was ripe for a little overhaul to the restaurant he has operated on University Boulevard for a decade.
When he reopens in late December or early January, Markou’s baby —long confused with the My Big Fat Greek Restaurant chain — will have a new name and a bulked up menu.
It will reopen as Pelio Grill Greek Cuisine & Catering at 994 E. University Blvd. The menu will include a number of seafood and sausage dishes native to Pelio, Greece, where Markou spent his childhood. Prices will remain under $10; only three dishes will top $10.
