Dueling Pianos is “key†to promoting Tu Nidito’s mission to ensure that “no child grieves alone.â€
The unique fundraiser, which has become renowned for its musical face-offs, begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at The Grand Tucson, 33 S. 6th Ave.
“It is one of our signature events and we feel that with the obviously heavier work we do every day, it is nice to do something celebratory and fun to raise money for Tu Nidito,†said Meghan Reinold, Director of Development for Tu Nidito.
Dueling Pianos features artists with ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ Dueling Pianos who play songs of all genres, including country, pop, classic rock, Top 40 and hits from the last six decades. The pianists play requests in exchange for tips, and the audience can pool tips to increase the likelihood that a favorite song will be played. Tips can cause songs to be interrupted and/or changed upon request. All tips benefit Tu Nidito, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and families dealing with death and serious medical diagnoses.

“People can request anything they want, and it is really fun to sing along and dance,†Reinold said. “There is always lots of Elton John and Billy Joel and other great artists.â€
Ultimately, the evening also provides outreach to the community about Tu Nidito’s unique services, according to Reinold.
“Tu Nidito is really the only organization of its kind in Southern ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥ and almost the entire state that provides the breadth of grief support services and ensures that families have the support they need when they are going through the loss or death of a special person or the diagnosis of a serious medical condition,†Reinold said.
Last year, Tu Nidito served more than 1,100 individuals through free one-on-one and group support and an additional 1,000 through crisis response and education.
Reinold said the services are vital to prevent long-term health challenges that can result from unresolved grief. This has significant implications in ÃÛÁÄÖ±²¥, where Tu Nidito research has shown that one in 10 children will experience the death of a parent by age 18 and one in 285 children will be diagnosed with a serious medical condition by their 20th birthday.
“We are really trying to educate people and create a community of acceptance and understanding for those who are grieving,†Reinold said. “We want to make sure the community is aware of us and knows we are here for support if they need us, with all our services free of charge in English and Spanish.â€
