A man was struck and killed while jaywalking across a street on the city's southeast side with his family, Tucson police said.
The crash happened about 9:15 p.m. Saturday when Richard Daniel Townsend and his family were walking across South Wilmot Road just south of East Golf Links Road, Tucson police said Sunday in a news release.
Townsend was crossing Wilmot with his family and he was in the rear of the group, the release said. "For reasons that are unknown(Townsend) became separated. As he crossed, he was struck by a white 2007 BMW 328 traveling northbound in the median lane," the release said.
Townsend was not in a marked or implied crosswalk at the time of the crash, police said.
The driver of the BMW immediately stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
Jaywalking by Townsend is the major contributing factor in the crash, the release said. The crash still is being investigated.
